Here's the story behind why K DanJang was made, and the meaning behind the name "Kkot-danjang."
At the Olive Young flagship store in Seongsu-dong, only 30-35 people a day can get a skin diagnosis, and these popular slots usually fill up within 10 minutes. Global interest in K-beauty is intense enough to draw 1.4 million foreign visitors a year, yet very few people actually get to experience that diagnosis firsthand.
K DanJang started with this question — "What if anyone could get that diagnosis in the palm of their hand, without waiting in line outside a Seongsu-dong store?"
And we added one more principle: a good diagnosis alone isn't enough. As the saying goes, "sleep is the best medicine" — no matter how good a cosmetic product is, it's useless without the right way of using it and the right habits. So K DanJang doesn't stop at recommending good products. Instead, an AI directly guides each individual customer, in text and voice, on exactly "how to apply it and how to care for your skin," tailored to a different situation every day (today's weather, activities, and condition).
From a single photo, K DanJang analyzes 478 facial landmarks to build a personalized profile across 32 items, including skin type, personal color, eye shape, face shape, nose, and lips.
Diagnosis is only the beginning. Every morning, your AI guide Yuna puts together a new makeup routine reflecting today's weather, schedule, and condition, and walks you through it in her own voice.
Yuna isn't just a simple tutorial — she has learned real techniques from renowned makeup artists in Korea. From flawless finishes that hold up under stage lights to the delicate details once reserved for photoshoots, that expertise is reconstructed fresh every day to fit your face shape and today's situation. From an effortless, natural daily look to techniques for a fuller, more youthful appearance — it's packed with the details K-beauty has refined over the years.
That's why K DanJang isn't a one-time diagnostic tool, but aims to be your everyday K-beauty companion.
"Danjang (丹粧)" is a Korean word for the entire act of grooming and beautifying oneself. And the "K" in K DanJang carries two meanings at once — Korea, and Kkot (flower).
The word "Kkot-danjang" means more than simply "dressing up nicely" — it holds the care put into beauty, the anticipation of a fresh start, and the spirit of cherishing yourself. Just as flowers symbolize spring, new beginnings, and vitality, K DanJang wanted to capture the moment you take care of yourself each morning in the emotional language of "Kkot-danjang."
K DanJang doesn't hide the fact that AI analyzes your facial features and creates a different personalized guide every day. We believe being upfront about this is where trust begins. The AI never uses your facial data for identification or any other purpose, and the original photo used for diagnosis is never stored on our servers and is analyzed only on your device (except when you've given separate consent to AI training use). All that remains is "32 feature codes, just for you" — and these codes become the basis for fresh advice every day.
